Cantilever bridges
The cantilever bridge is built from multiple segments that can either be precast, or cast-in-situ.
From 1962 to date, 70% of prefabricated segment bridges built worldwide required Freyssinet's technology and expertise. Their advantages are:
- the quality of factory fabrication;
- an increased construction rate;
- A reduced site schedule;
- A reduction in time-dependent strains due to shrinkage and creep.
If the segments are cast-in-situ, concreting is undertaken by means of steel carriage form travelers supporting the formworks and proceeding symmetrically on each side of the supports. As the segments are cast and loaded at different times, it is important to accurately determine the deformations. However, the advantages consist of:
- suppression of formwork and scaffolding;
- reduction and optimization of formworks, reduced to the length of the segment;
- improved manpower efficiency due to a repetitive cycle;
- construction flexibility (several spans can be simultaneously erected)
Application:
- long structures with multiple spans;
- Long span bridges: 50 m to 250 m.
The span length is usually up to 150 meters.
